A statement published by the Middle East Quartet on 24 September 2009 in New York, NY, following a meeting between UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, EU High Representative Javier Solana, EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Quartet Representative Tony Blair. The statement reiterated the Quartet's support for a two-state solution based on previous resolutions and agreements, welcomed the PNA's state-building plan published in August 2009, stressed the need to resolve the crisis in the Gaza Strip, and recognized the importance of the Arab Peace Initiative.
