EU Parliament Resolution on Recognizing Palestine (2014)

A resolution adopted by the European Parliament, the legislative body of the European Union, on 17 December 2014, by a vote of 498 to 88. The resolution offered support in principle for European recognition of Palestinian statehood, while stating that "[official] recognition [...] falls in the competence of the [EU] Member States." The resolution cited several documents, including official Swedish recognition of Palestine and symbolic resolutions on recognition adopted by the parliaments of several EU member states in late 2014, as well as UNGA Resolution 67/19 of 2012, granting Palestine the status of a non-member observer state in the United Nations. It also offered support for peace negotiations and the two-state solution.
