Conclusions of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on the Middle East Peace Process (2009)

Conclusions adopted by the European Union Foreign Affairs Council regarding the Middle East peace process in Brussels, Belgium, on 8 December 2009. The Council expressed disappointment about the lack of progress in negotiations, and reiterated the EU’s support of the two-state solution, based on previous agreements and UN resolutions, the Madrid principles, the Road Map and the Arab Peace Initiative. It further stressed that no changes to the 1967 lines would be acceptable to the EU other than those agreed on by both sides. The conclusions also discussed Israeli settlements, the situation in East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, and Israeli-Lebanese and Israeli-Syrian negotiations.
