A statement published by the Middle East Quartet on 2 February 2007 in Washington, DC, following a meeting between UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, EU High Representative Javier Solana, EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The leaders pledged their commitment for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on Resolutions 242 and 338, with a goal of "ending the occupation that began in 1967". They offered support for bilateral negotiations and urged both sides to carry out their obligations under the Road Map, the Agreement on Movement and Access (AMA) and ther 2005 Sharm el-Sheikh Understandings. They concluded with affirming the "primacy" of the Road Map and encouraging American-led progress in its implementation.
