Washington Talks (December 1999)
A summit held in Washington, DC, on 15-16 December 1999, with the goal of resuming Israeli-Syrian peace negotiations that had been stalled since early 1996. Israel was represented by Prime Minister Ehud Barak, and Syria by Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa, with the summit hosted by US President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. The negotiations were continued at the Shepherdstown Conference in January 2000.
