Sharm el-Sheikh Summit of Peacemakers (1996)
An international summit held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on 13 March 1996. It was chaired by US President Bill Clinton and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, with the participation of PNA President Yasser Arafat, Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres, UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali and leaders from other countries such as France, Germany, Russia and Canada. The purpose of the meeting, which took place following a spate of Palestinian militant attacks against Israeli civilians, was to show international support for the Oslo Process, focusing on security issues, and to enhance counter-terrorism efforts.
