A policy speech on the Middle East and North Africa given by US President Barack Obama in Washington, DC, on 19 May 2011. Obama addressed the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and the events of the Arab Spring in Egypt, Syria and other countries. He deplored the continuation of the Israeli-Arab and Israeli-Palestinian conflict, citing in particular the failure of negotiations, continued Israeli settlement activity, and Palestinian efforts to delegitimize Israel. He then offered his own vision for Israeli-Palestinian peace: a two-state solution with "secure and recognized" borders based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed territorial exchange, offering sovereignty and contiguity for Palestinians and security for Israelis. He further called for a "just and fair" resolution of the Jerusalem and Palestinian refugee issues, and for the Quartet and Arab states to support the peace process. The speech won strong support from the Quartet in a statement issued the following day, and its principles on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations were reiterated several days later in Obama's speech at the AIPAC Policy Conference.
