Basic Agreement Between the Holy See and the PLO (2000)

An agreement between the Holy See and the PLO signed in the Vatican on 15 February 2000. Following the official establishment of relations between the two parties in 1994, the agreement called for a special statute to be established for Jerusalem, based on the equality of the three monotheistic religions, freedom of access to and worship in the holy places, and maintenance of the status quo. It also called for a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and addressed the position of the Catholic Church in areas under Palestinian control.
