United Nations General Assembly Resolutions 997 through 1003 (1956)

Seven resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on its 1st Emergency Special Session on 2-10 November 1956. The session was convened in response to the Security Council's inability to resolve the Suez Crisis, in which Israel, Britain and France fought Egypt, with Israel taking control of the entire Sinai Peninsula. The resolutions called for an immediate ceasefire, a full withdrawal of British and French forces and a return to the 1949 armistice line, and established the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) to oversee the implementation of these measures.
