Gaza Flotilla Attack (2010)

An Israeli commando assault on a flotilla of six civilian ships en route to the Gaza Strip on 31 May 2010. The flotilla, dubbed the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, was organized by the Free Gaza Movement and Turkish NGO İHH, and was allegedly carrying humanitarian aid to the Strip, which had been under Israeli blockade since 2007. The stated purpose of the intervention was to divert the ship to an Israeli port for inspection. Following the assault, confrontations began between the Israeli commandos and flotilla participants, who were alleged by Israel to be armed with cold weapons. The incident resulted in the deaths of nine Turkish nationals, while a tenth died of his wounds in 2014.
