Knesset Repeals Prohibition Against Liaising with PLO (1993)

A law enacted by the Knesset on 19 January 1993, amending the 1948 Terror Prevention Order. It repealed a previous amendment to the Order, enacted on 5 August 1986, which made it a criminal offense for Israelis to come in contact with persons affiliated with organizations designated by the Government of Israel as terrorist organizations. Both the 1986 and 1993 amendments were widely seen as related to possible Israeli contacts with the PLO, designated by the Government of Israel as a terrorist organization on 30 January 1986. The repeal coincided with the beginning of the Oslo Process, allowing Israeli officials to come in direct contact with the PLO leadership.
