2nd Arab League Summit in Alexandria - Approves Establishment of PLO (September 1964)
A summit of the heads of Arab League countries, held in Alexandria, Egypt, on 5–11 September 1964, following the first summit held in Cairo in January of the same year. Thirteen heads of state attended, as well as PLO head Ahmad Shukeiri. The leaders resolved to work together for the goal of eliminating Israel, welcomed the establishment of the PLO, and approved its decision to form the Palestinian Liberation Army. They also announced their determination to oppose British control in Yemen and Oman.
