A demarche, or diplomatic communication, authored by European Union officials and transmitted to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Security Council, exposed on Israeli newspaper Haaretz’s website on 22 October 2014. The demarche contained a reaffirmation of the EU’s commitment to the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It also strongly denounced Israeli activities in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, which allegedly jeopardized the viability of such a solution. These include new construction in and around East Jerusalem (including the E1 area), attempts to change the status quo on the Temple Mount/Al-Haram al-Sharif and the relocation of some Bedouins residing in the West Bank to the Jordan Valley.
