    A plan proposed by Eric Johnston, US President Dwight Eisenhower's special envoy, to develop water resources in the Jordan River Basin in cooperation between four countries - Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. The plan called for two dams to be built on the Yarmuk River and suggested a division of the water supply between the participating countries. The plan was rejected by the Arab League, but accepted de facto by Israel and Jordan, which subsequently received American aid in carrying out water-related projects.
