PNA President Abbas' Inaugural Address (2005)
The inaugural address given by newly-elected PNA President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on 15 January 2005. Abbas first hailed the democratic process that had taken place with the presidential elections and lauded late President Yasser Arafat. He then described the challenge of "national liberation", including the establishment of a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines and the resolution of the Palestinian refugee issue in accordance with UNGA Resolution 194. He called for continued Palestinian-Israeli negotiations on the basis of the Road Map. Abbas also requested support from the international community in the effort to dismantle the West Bank Separation Barrier in line with the 2004 ICJ decision, and referred to various dimensions of Palestinian state-building efforts, while offering support to Palestinian prisoners, refugees and the families of martyrs.
