Al-Zaim Proposal for Israeli-Syrian Peace (1949)

Secret negotiations between Israel and Syria conducted in 1949, following the coup d'état in March that brought Husni Al-Zaim to power in Syria. Al-Zaim proposed a peace treaty that would include the resettlement of 300,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria and the delineation of the Israeli-Syrian border in the middle of Lake Hula and the Sea of Galilee. The proposal never materialized, and Al-Zaim was deposed and executed in August that year.
