United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006)

A resolution adopted unanimously by the United Nations Security Council on 11 August 2006. Based on proposals by the United States and France, the resolution called for an immediate ceasefire in the 2006 Lebanon War between Israel and Hezbollah. Additionally, it called for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, alongside the deployment of UNIFIL and Lebanese Army forces in southern Lebanon, with Hezbollah withdrawing north of the Litani River. It also emphasized the importance of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon. The resolution was confirmed by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and by a 13 August unanimous vote of the Government of Israel.
