United Nations Security Council Resolution 338 (1973)

A resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council on 22 October 1967 with a vote of 14 For, 0 Against, 1 Absent (China). The resolution called for an immediate ceasefire in the 1973 War and called for the implementation of Resolution 242, aiming at a “just and durable peace in the Middle East”. The resolution laid the groundwork for the Geneva Peace Conference. Together with Resolution 242, it was adopted by the PLO in 1988, and has served as a basis for many later peace initiatives, such as the Oslo Process, the Arab Peace Initiative, the Road Map for Peace and the Geneva Initiative.
